The teacher's guide for this reader has general helps for teaching the courses, as well as practical helps for each lesson. These include suggestions for class discussion to improve comprehension, pointers for oral reading, and information on the vocabulary words. There are also suggested answers for the exercises in the readers.
The supplementary workbook was developed to supplement the reader. It includes valuable vocabulary exercises and questions that develop comprehension skills. Written especially with the multi-grade teacher in mind, these lessons can be done by the students without much teacher guidance. This second book in the series The Story of God's Chosen Family covers Old Testament history from King Saul to the end of the Old Testament.
As the pupils study the Israelite kings, the prophets, and the nations' responses to God's messengers, they see the importance of right choices and the awful results of rejecting truth. They follow the Israelite nation, both the Northern and Southern Kingdoms, to captivity because of their sin. They return with a remnant of Jews to rebuild the nation of Judah in the face of opposition from surrounding enemies.
The Bible is the pupil's textbook. The workbook guides the pupil through the study of the Bible as he looks up verses and answers the questions. A variety of question types includes multiple choice and filling in the blank. There are also vocabulary studies and other educational exercises on such subjects as music in Bible times, the ten "lost" tribes of Israel, and doctors in Bible times. Five lessons focus on Life in Bible Times: "What Did People Wear?" "The Israelite Family," "Israel's Neighbors," "Foods and Mealtime Customs," and "Making a Living." Each of these lessons also includes a section on using Bible study books.
The pupil's book has 30 lessons divided into 6 chapters, a review for each chapter, and a final review. A test for each chapter and a final test are in a separate booklet with tear-out sheets.
The teacher's manual, bound with a durable cover, has a reduced copy of the pupil's workbook with the answers filled in. Oral reviews, main points, suggested memory passages, and other notes to the teacher are in the margins.

The worksheets include three sets: (1) The Eight Parts of Speech, (2) The Sentence, and (3) Punctuation and Capitalization. We recommend they be studied in this order. Each subject is presented in two levels of difficulty: Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8. The rate at which they are completed is not important. Some may complete one set of worksheets each year. Others may cover more or less.
Not all the material in the Building Christian English Series is covered in these workbooks, nor do they correspond lesson by lesson. They are not designed to be used in place of the textbooks. They provide drill in specific areas for those who desire it. Answer keys are available in the form of worksheets with answers filled in.

This hardbound textbook has thirty-four lessons divided into units of six lessons each (except for the last unit, which has only four lessons). Each unit (except the last) has five regular lessons followed by a review lesson for that unit. The units are generally self-contained, so that a student can find the spelling rules and helps for each review lesson within the same unit.
Each regular lesson has sixteen "New Words" and four "Review Words" and is divided into three main parts.
Part A, Sounds and Letters, drills the phonetic composition of the words in the spelling list. Spelling rules for the speech sounds taught in the lesson are given just before the work relating to them. In many of the lessons, students will need to interpret a number of phonetic spellings.
Part B, Using Your Words, emphasizes the vocabulary aspect of the spelling words. Part B also teaches some dictionary-related skills. As with other lesson parts, the student is expected to use the "Speller Dictionary" as needed.
Part C, Building Words, emphasizes the use of words or word parts in forming other words. Plural and compound nouns, present and past tenses, prefixes and suffixes, and contractions are some of the concepts taught.
An additional part at the end of the regular lessons is entitled "Bible Thoughts." This part is designed to link use of the spelling words to Bible concepts. The student is to use his Bible as needed in completing this part.
The hardbound teacher's manual includes a reduced copy of the pupil's pages. An answer key and test sentences are given in the margins.

Glimpses of contemporary Mennonite missions in Latin America remind us of God's plan in spreading the Gospel to all mankind.
